Koraput: In a devastating incident highlighting the dangers of illegal hunting practices, two young men were electrocuted to death after coming into contact with a live wire allegedly laid to trap wild animals in the Laxmipur block of Koraput district on Friday.
The tragedy unfolded near Kendupai village under the Pipalpadar panchayat.
According to preliminary reports, the victims, identified as Gahela Mandinga of Kendupai village and Kumar Miniaka of Pipalpadar village, had ventured into a forested area to search for their missing cattle.
It was during this search that the duo accidentally stumbled upon a wire that had been illegally electrified by poachers. The wire, intended to electrocute wild animals, claimed the lives of the two young men instantly. Their bodies were later discovered lying on a nearby hill where the fatal trap was set.
The incident has exposed alleged administrative apathy, as locals reported a significant delay in the official response. Hours after the tragedy, family members of the deceased were seen grieving beside the bodies, waiting for authorities to arrive. ved families.
