Bhubaneswar: Manglabag police arrested two persons for allegedly kidnapping two labourers and demanding a ransom of Rs 1 lakh.

The accused Binod Samal of Jobra and Debun Samal of Manglabag Ghasiasahi have been forwarded to court following their arrest.

As per reports, the victims, both residents of Jharkhand, were working for a contractual agency roped in for the construction work of SCB Medical College and Hospital. On January 5, the youths had a scuffle with some drunken youths at Hadia Patha. The youths later kidnapped the two labourers and took them to an abandoned house in the Jobra, where they demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh from their family members. The kidnappers threatened to kill the victims if the ransom was not paid.

The family members informed another person from their neighbourhood, who stays in Cuttack, about the incident.
Acting on the complaint filed by that person, police launched an investigation and arrested the two accused. They were produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
