Mayurbhanj: Two youths were killed, while another was critically injured in a road accident near Shilgathi village under Khunta police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on later Saturday night.

The deceased have been identified as Solaray (20, son of Das Singh of Shilighatigram, and Tapan Murmu (18), son of Late Bhim Murmu of the same village. The identity of the critically injured is yet to be ascertained.

According to reports, the three youths were returning to Shilgathi village on a bike at around 8.30 pm on Saturday. Passers-by found the three bodies lying on the road in critical condition near Shilgathi intersection.

Locals informed the Khunta police station and Fire Services department regarding the accident. Both reached the accident site, rescued the three youths, and admitted them to the Khunta Community Health Center (CHC) where the doctors declared Solaray and Tapan dead. While Solary died on the spot, Tapan breathed his last at the health center.

The injured youth has been shifted to PRM Medical College in Baripada after first aid.

Although the exact reason behind the accident is being investigated, police said that it is likely that a heavy vehicle hit the motorbike killing the two youths and injuring another.
