Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission on Monday directed district Collectors to ensure that the candidates for the urban local body (ULB) polls should end their campaigns by March 22 evening.
In a letter to the Collectors, the SEC stated, “No person shall convene, hold or attend any public meeting in any polling area during the period of 48 hours preceding the hour fixed for the closure of the poll for any election in that polling area.”
This being the provision, the Commission directed that any public meetings and campaigning in any mode shall be stopped at 5 pm on March 22. The directive needs to be widely propagated in urban areas where polling is scheduled, the letter further stated.
