Bhubaneswar: Reviewing and monitoring the activities being undertaken by the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in different towns and cities of the State, thrust has been given by the Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department to implement them in accordance with the 5-T in true letter and spirit so that the ULBs could be make themselves eligible for participating in the prestigious CM’s Cleanest City Award.
In a review meeting held today at Convention Hall of Lokseva Bhawan here, H&UD Principal Secretary G Mathivathanan stressed upon the proper execution of the activities within the stipulated time period.
During the review of the activities, the CM’s Cleanest City Award matter was discussed at length and Mathivathanan urged upon all the ULBs to make their cities eligible to participate in the prestigious award.
It is to mention here that the process for the prestigious CM’s Cleanest City Award has been started from this year and it would strengthen sanitation value chain on a mission mode to make ‘Swachha Odisha Sustha Odisha’, a press communiqué of the H&UD Department issued today stated.
Besides, other aspects of urban sanitation, including proper functioning of Wealth Centre, progress in implementation of various key urban initiatives like JAGA Mission, construction and operationalization of Micro Composting Centres and material recovery facilities in the ULBs, revenue generation, smart street lights, water supply position and Livelihood Mission was also reviewed and the target was set against each activity for the effective implementation of the schemes and programmes.
Emphasis was also given to internal revenue generation and make the ULBs self-sustainable, the press communiqué informed.
Apart from that, review of development works under different schemes was also undertaken. All were instructed to utilize the funds and to submit utilization certificate quickly. Similarly, sanitation issues and the issue of Land Right certificates were also discussed.
All Collectors were requested to take stock of the situation at their level and to take required action.
While Municipal Administration Director Sangramjit Naik gave the introductory address, H&UD Additional Secretary Kalyan Kumar Rath, Joint Secretary Pravat Kumar Mohapatra and Deputy Director-cum-SUDA Additional Director Sarada Panda spoke on various schemes.
The Collectors, DUDA Project Directors, BMC Commissioner, Executive Officers and concerned officials from the district administration and ULBs of five districts attended the review meeting.
