Bargarh: An under-trial inmate died under mysterious circumstances at Bargarh district jail late Monday night.
The deceased, Giridhari Bahidar (38) hailed from Jhanapada village under Attabira police station.
While the exact cause of death is still unclear, preliminary reports suggest Bahidar may have hanged himself on an electric wire.
Bahidar had been lodged in the jail since his arrest in August on charges related to a POCSO case. Police have ordered an inquiry and officials are awaiting post‑mortem results to determine the precise reason behind the death.
Sub-jailer said, “Sub‑jailer Salman said, “Bahidar was in cell 8. He committed suicide by touching a live electric wire while the other inmates were asleep. Hearing his cries, the other inmates woke up and carefully disconnected him. He, however, died after some time.”
