Koraput: An undertrial prisoner lodged in Jeypore Special Jail, arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a Class X student, died during treatment in Lakshmipur in Odisha’s Koraput district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Subrata Tusar Ranjan Mallik, a native of Ratnagiri village under Bari Ramachandrapur police limits in Jeypore district.
Mallik’s health deteriorated while in jail and the prison authorities first admitted him to the Jeypore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted him to Shaheed Laxman Naik Medical College in Koraput. He died near Lakshmipur while he was being shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. However, he breathed his last near Lakshmipur on the way to Berhampur.
Meanwhile, the Lakshmipur SDPO informed that since Mallick was an undertrial prisoner, a post-mortem will be conducted in the presence of a magistrate and all the video clips will also be recorded. According to information, the deceased was a teacher at Champapadar High School in Borigumma block. He was arrested in connection with abducting a Class 10 of Champapadar High School while she was on her way from her examination center on March 20, 2023
