Cuttack: An undertrial prisoner undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack escaped from the hospital on Thursday on the pretext of going to the washroom.
The undertrial prisoner has been identified as Sajan Das of Nahidipada village under Naugoan police limits of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district. The accused, who was arrested in connection with a theft case, reportedly fled the hospital wearing a saree.
According to reports, Sajan went to use the hospital’s washroom wearing a saree at around 12 noon on Thursday. As the six guards on duty were callous, he took the opportunity to escape in the guise of a woman.
Sajan Das was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital’s medical ward on May 26.
The matter came to light when the Choudwar police filed a complaint in this connection at the Marsalbag police station on Friday. A case under Section 224 of the IPC has been registered.
Following the daring escape, Cuttack police conducted raids at some places in Jagatsinghpur and Nyali on Friday. A special team has been formed to nab the escaped prisoner.
Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said, “We will arrest him soon.”
Now the CCTV footage of the hospital is being checked. However, due to heavy crowding in SCB Medical College, it is not so easy to find the prisoners from the footage.
