Bhubaneswar: Members of the Odisha Government Contractual Employees Association (OGCEA) turned out in large numbers and staged a demonstration here on Mahatma Gandhi Marg demanding abolition of contractual appointment rules.
Thousands of activists of OGCEA, including teachers gathered in between Station Square and Lower PMG Square shouting slogans in favour of their demands amid heavy rains.
“We want the state government to abolish the system of recruiting employees on a contractual basis. We also demand a uniform rule for all categories of employees,” OGCEA president Bijay Malla said.
“Compared to the salary of our counterparts who are permanent employees of the State Government, our salary is very low, though we undergo a tough selection process and are highly qualified,” he added.
The OGCEA has also demanded the implementation of a uniform rule for all Government employees. “We want equal pay for equal work as the contractual employees also perform the same duty as the permanent staff,” the protesters said.
