Bhubaneswar: Unfavorable conditions have delayed the onset of the Southwest Monsoon in Odisha and hot and humid weather conditions are likely to continue for the next five days, predicted the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

According to the weather office, the onset of the monsoon may be delayed by 3-4 days across Odisha owing to the unfavourable conditions prevailing in the region. It added that the day temperatures (maximum temperatures) may rise gradually by 2°C to 3°C causing unbearable heat. Heatwave conditions will prevail in some districts in western Odisha.

At the same time, a few places in coastal Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by lightning.

The Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Monday wrote to eight District Collectors to take precautionary measures to help people deal with the heatwave conditions. The District Collectors of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonpur, Balangir, Boudh, and Nuapada have been advised to make preparations to set up wards for treating heatwave patients at the different PHC, CHC, and DHH in their area.

Meanwhile, reports said that dengue is making a resurgence in some Odisha districts. So far, 235 patients have been diagnosed in the state this year.
