Balasore: A swarm of unidentified insects has triggered fear and panic among the villagers of Jambeswarpur under the Genguti panchayat of Odisha’s Balasore district.
Many here suspect that the insects came out of the agricultural fields following heavy rainfall in the area last week due to western disturbances. Though the rains have stopped, the population of the insects has been increasing steadily since Sunday afternoon.
Currently, the villagers are living in the fear of invasion by insects, which are spreading to new areas and have become uncontrollable.
People who have been bitten by these insects complain of an irritating sensation and pain.
Residents of Jameswarpur complain that they are unable to come out of their homes due to the invasion by insects. They are also having problems eating and drinking water as everything is infested by strange insects. These insects enter the ears and noses and fall on food.
Villagers said they have tried to kill the insects using pesticides, but their efforts did not yield the desired results.
Meanwhile, a team from the OUAT reached the village and started an investigation.
