Balasore: Unidentified miscreants broke into a house in near Junia Ram Temple in Bahanga block in Odisha’s Balasore district late on Tuesday night, beat up an old lady and decamped with cash worth Rs 8 lakh and gold jewellery.
According to reports, Rajkishore Gupta had gone to Balasore railway station to bring his wife on Tuesday night. Only his aged mother Shantilata was at home and taking advantage of this situation, unidentified miscreants broke into the house breaking the glass window pane. They threatened Shantilata, beat her and tied her with ropes before looting cash and gold jewellery.
When Rajkishore returned home with his wife on Wednesday morning, he was shocked to find the windows of his house broken and the door open ajar. Inside, he found his mother lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
Neighbours rushed to Rajkishore’s house hearing his cries for help and rushed Shantilata to Gopalpur hospital. Later, she was shifted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) as her condition deteriorated.
On being informed, Gopalpur police visited the crime spot and launched an investigation into the matter. A scientific team and sniffer dog have also been pressed into service. Till the time of filing this report, police have not been able to identify the criminals or trace their whereabouts.
