Bhubaneswar: The Central government has allocated Rs 10,599 crore for the development of the railway sector in Odisha in the Union Budget for the 2025-26 financial year.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement addressing a presser at New Delhi on Monday.
The Railway Minister highlighted the significant progress in railway infrastructure across the state during the last ten years.
Vaishnaw revealed that railway projects worth over Rs 78,000 crore are currently underway in Odisha, underscoring the Centre’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and safety.
Over the past decade, the BJP-led government has laid more than 2,000 kilometers of new rail tracks in the state, a feat that surpasses the entire railway network of Malaysia, the Minister claimed.
Odisha is also benefiting from the operation of six Vande Bharat trains, with plans to introduce more in the near future. “In the last 10 years, 2,046 kilometers of new tracks have been constructed in Odisha, exceeding the total railway network in Malaysia. Additionally, railway projects worth Rs 75,000 crore are in progress, and Kavach safety technology has been implemented across 1,898 kilometers of tracks in the state,” Vaishnaw told reporters.
The allocation for 2025-26 marks a slight increase from the previous year’s budget, which had earmarked Rs 10,586 crore for Odisha’s railways.
The continued investment reflects the Centre’s focus on modernizing rail infrastructure and improving passenger safety and convenience in the state.
