Bhubaneswar: Officials of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and Housing and Urban Development Department on Thursday held a meeting to chalk the modalities for shifting Unit 1 vegetable market to city outskirts.
A senior official of the BMC said that the new site will be developed at Bhagabanpur in an area spanning 10 acres. The move has been welcomed by traders associations.
According to the BMC, the new Haat at Bhagabanpur along the National Highway 16, will have cold storage facility and ample space for loading and unloading goods.
“As the proposed site is located along the NH, the movement of goods will be seamless. Besides, it will check traffic congestion as vegetable-laden trucks will no longer enter the city,” the official added.
According to sources, the plan and other official formalities to shift the Unit I vegetable wholesale Haat from the heart of the city to outskirts have been finalised. The steps to shift the market will be taken soon.
