Berhampur: A student of Berhampur university died due to lightning strike while he was on the Gopalpur beach. The incident took place when the youth was attending a call on his mobile phone, said reports.
The deceased was identified as Amit Nayak, a student of MSc Second Year, of Botany Department. He was a native of Ashok Nagar area in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, Amit sustained serious injuries on his thigh and ear following the lightning, as the mobile phone exploded. He succumbed at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
A group of hotel staff on Gopalpur beach were witness to the mishap and had rushed Amit to the hospital. Police have registered a case in this connection.
