**Bhubaneswar**: In a remarkable development, the United Nations Organisation (UNO) on Saturday re-tweeted Odisha Government’s launching of Special Development Councils (SDCs) for the nine tribal-dominated districts of the State meant for the all round development of each tribal community in the respective districts.
CM @Naveen_Odisha launched Special Development Councils for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur & Malkangiri districts. Pertinent to note that the UNO seldom re-tweets government programmes. Going by such a development, it assumes significance to the ongoing developmental spree, especially for the rural and tribal-development, by the Odisha Government under the stewardship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Notably, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday formally launched the 9 SDCs at a special function here claimed to be first ever in India.
The Chief Minister even in his media reactions has said that it is indeed a historic occasion. These Councils are empowered to protect and promote their indigenous culture and he is sure that they will help preserve the unique cultural identity of each tribal community.
It has been done by the BJD-ruled State Government in a bid to give further impetus to the involvement of the tribal communities in the development process, plan formulation, implementation and monitoring so as to make tribal development more inclusive, participative and hence effective.
