Subarnapur: The police today foiled the self-immolation bid by a young contractor inside the Binika Police Station (PS) as he resorted to such a step in protest against the non-payment of his outstanding bill of Rs 87,000 towards the road construction work officially executed by him long ago.
The agitated contractor has been identified as Trilochan Purohit of Jharbahali village under Ulunda block in the district.
Reports said that Trilochan had executed the road construction work at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh in collaboration with his other partners in 2011-12. He used to urge the then concerned Block Junior Engineer (JE) umpteen times for payment of his pending dues. The JE, identified as one Murty Babu, has meanwhile been transferred from Ulunda block to Binika following which a complaint was filed in the Binika PS. Acting on the written complaint, the police had summoned both the JE and the contractor.
After reaching the police station, aggrieved contractor Trilochan allegedly poured kerosene on self and tried to immolate demanding the unpaid amount from the JE.
Immediately, the police personnel scuttled the self-immolation attempt, detained Trilochan and initiated an investigation into the matter.
