Bhubaneswar: The Uttar Pradesh police have busted a counterfeit currency note printing racket in Prayagraj and identified a youth from Basudevpur in Odisha’s Bhadrak as the mastermind of the racket. The arrested accused has been identified as Jahir Khan.
According to Prayagraj Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Deepak Bhuker, Jahir Khan along with Mohammad Afzal from Kareli in Prayagraj was involved in printing fake currency in a room at the Jamia Habibia Masjide Azam Madrasa. During raids at the madrasa police seized 1,300 fake 100-rupee notes, 234 printed pages (uncut), one laptop, a colour printer, two bundles of bound paper and one bundle of loose paper.
Bhuker said the madrasa cleric Arifeen had provided a separate room for the production of counterfeit currency. “The gang has been involved in the counterfeit currency business for the last three to four months. They provided fake notes with a face value of Rs 45,000 in exchange for genuine notes of Rs 15,000,” he told the media.
Jahir left Bhadrak and went to the Madrasa four years back. While he was studying there, he got involved in printing of fake currency notes.
Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Jahir and is likely to visit Bhadrak and raid places linked to him. The officer also mentioned that the police will file a petition in court seeking the remand of the arrested suspects for further questioning in connection with the case.
