Bhubaneswar: An Anganwadi worker allegedly committed suicide at Anganwadi centre at Hansipatna village under Soro police limits in Balasore district, on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Sabita Mohanty of Hansipatna village.
According to sources, she had gone to Anganwadi Centre like everyday. After the closure of the centre, she allegedly locked herself inside a classroom of Anganwadi Centre and committed suicide by hanging herself.
Her family members made a frantic search for her as she delayed to return home. Later, she was found hanging inside the classroom of Anganwadi Centre.
Sabita was rushed to Soro Hospital where she was declared dead.
On a tip-off, police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem before handing it over to the deceased’s family.
It is learnt from her neighbours that Sabita’s 17-year-old son committed suicide two months back. She was upset after the incident. She might have taken the extreme step after losing her mental balance.
Police, however, are yet to ascertain the reason behind Sabita’s drastic step.
