Bhubaneswar: At least three incidents of distribution of cash on polling day of urban body elections were reported on Thursday.
In Ward No 53 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), a man was thrashed by locals and political workers on allegations of distributing cash to voters. Police rushed to rescue the person who was beaten black and blue. According to reports, he was in possession of Rs 3,500 allegedly meant to lure voters.
Similarly, in Bolangir, the brother of a local leader was assaulted by rival group over allegations of cash distribution to the voters. The incident was reported from Kolpada in Patnagarh area of the district.
In Bhadrak, the husband of an independent candidate was detained for allegedly distributing cash among voters in Ward No-18 of the Municipality. The town police seized Rs 25,000 cash from his possession, sources said.
