Bhubaneswar: Life in the infinite ‘Space’ is incredibly exciting. Human beings, tall mountain peaks, rivers, high rises and continents, are all microscopically insignificant when compared to the vastness of the Space, acclaimed NASA astronaut Jack Fischer said.
“I myself felt to be like a grain amidst billions and billions of stars during the 136-day stay in Space. It was an amazing feeling,” said Fischer while addressing Twin City students at SAITED 2017, the annual confluence on science and technology organised by SAI International School here on Wednesday.
Fischer mesmerised a packed audience comprising of over 4000 students, with a number of facts based on his personal experience and said, “The most beautiful feeling was to get up every day and start working on projects intended for improving our lives.”
An US Army Colonel, Fischer inspired the students to identify their passion, work hard and ‘aim for the stars.’
Fischer made his first spaceflight in April 2017, as a flight engineer for Expedition 51/52 on the International Space Station. During his 2017 mission, he logged 136 days in space with two others spacewalkers and landed on Earth with Peggy Whitson on September 3. Their team concluded 337 experiments and the major one among those was on cancer drugs.
Later, he met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. “It was pleasure meeting @NASA astronaut Dr @Astro2fish and gain insights into the wonderful world of space. He recently returned from a 136-day mission aboard @Space_Station. Looking forward to his association with us in promoting science, astronomy & space-tech in #Odisha,” Naveen tweeted.
