Bhubaneswar: India began their FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup campaign on a losing note as they went down 8-0 in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. India had booked an automatic berth in the age-group showpiece as hosts and they are one of the three debutants in the tournament along with fellow Group A side Morocco and Tanzania (Group D).
India are hosting their first ever Women’s World Cup as they welcome 15 other nations to compete in the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup. However, Indian women team lost the opener against the United States of America at the Kalinga Stadium situated in Bhubaneswar by a historic margin of 8-0.
The girls from USA now hold the record for scoring most goals against India in an under 17 match. The record was previously held by the Republic of Korea for 7-0.
USA scored the first goal of the night and it came from ace striker Melina Rebimbas in the first nine minutes of the game itself. The second goal for the USA side came in the 15th minute by the hands of Charlotte Kohler.
