Bhubaneswar: President Ram Nath Kovind graced the closing ceremony of Utkal University’s gala platinum jubilee celebrations at the Vani Vihar today.
The President was accompanied with First Lady of India Savita Kovind, Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Utkal University Soumendra Mohan Patnaik and other dignitaries.
Feeling honoured to be part of this notable event, President Kovind began by paying tribute to Barrister Madhusudan Das, Gopabandhu Das, Nilakantha Das, Godavarish Mishra and Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, among others, who are ‘remembered as the builders of new Odisha’. He said, “During the 75 years of its existence, the University has dedicated itself to the advancement of learning. It has emerged as the premier destination for thousands of students.”
He noted that since the university foundation was laid by first President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, in 1963, the institute has only grown in manifolds. He added, “I am confident that the University is poised to scale even greater heights in future and contribute significantly to building a knowledge-driven society fully equipped to face the challenges of the 21st century.”
Welcoming the President to the historic event and Odisha, the Chief Minister thanked him for making the event more memorable. Talking to students present he said, “In last November when I was amongst you, I was greatly moved by your sentiments, your emotions, and your enthusiasm to be part of this great celebration.”
“The real objective of education should be to develop innovative ideas, leadership quality and broaden the outlook of the students, so that they can utilize their talents for the wellbeing of humanity,” said CM Naveen.
Chief Minister invoked the students to take the age-old university to greater heights.
