Bhubaneswar: Students of Utkal University in Bhubaneswar blocked the National Highway in front of the varsity on Friday in protest of the decision of the authorities to close the hostels.
Reportedly, the university authorities have asked the students to vacate the hostels in accordance with the order of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
While fourth-semester students have been asked to vacate the hostels by April 12, first-semester students have been asked to vacate by April 16.
Protesting the decision, the students have locked the university gate and are staging a road blockade at Vani Vihar Square.
The BMC had on Wednesday directed educational institutions to ensure that the students should vacate as soon as their exams are over. And those who do not have any exams due should go home.
