Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday paid rich tributes Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das on his birth anniversary.
Pandit Gopabandhu Das was born on October 9 in 1877 at Suando near Sakhigopal in Puri district.
Das, referred to as Utkalmani or the Jewel of Utkal, was a freedom fighter, educationist, and social reformer who pioneered the cause of Orissa’s statehood.
The Odisha CM tweeted: “My tributes to Utkalmani Pandit Gopbandhu Das on his birth anniversary, a great freedom fighter and a symbol of selfless service and sacrifice.”
“His immeasurable patriotism, values of building an educated society and his unique creativity that permeates orthodox language and literature have always been a source of inspiration.”
