Bhubaneswar: An under-trial prisoner in Balangir jail has died due to illness. The 86-year-old Gurudev Deep of Turkela village in the district was lodged in the jail in POCSO case.
A warrant was issued in the name of Gurudev from the Balangir POCSO court in a POCSO case in 2017. On the strength of the warrant, the Turkela police arrested Gurudev on December 19 and produced him in court. He had been in Balangir jail since then.
Gurudev felt unwell last night. He was admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College Hospital. He died while undergoing treatment. The police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Police have also informed the family of the deceased prisoner.
