Titlagarh: Police on Saturday arrested one of the two under-trial prisoners (UTPs), who had escaped from Titlagarh Sub-jail. However, the manhunt is on to nab the other prisoner.
According to sources, the accused identified as Sumit Bihari, and Shobhavan Rana were lodged in jail in separate murder cases. Sorcerer Sushobhan Rana was arrested for allegedly killing two children to appease God at Sindheikela while Sumit Bihari had killed a toddler by throwing him into a well on Kesinga Hospital premises.
Sumit has been arrested from Delhil. Efforts are on to nab Rana, said police.
DIG of Prisons, Sambalpur had visited the jail a day after the incident to probe the matter. During his investigation, the DIG found out that the under-trials escaped after climbing wall no-4 with the help of a ladder. Besides, he found the CCTV footage of the camera installed there missing.
DIG had held the jail staff responsible for the incident and suspended the jail warden of Titlagarh sub-jail in Bolangir for dereliction of duty following the incident.
Jailer Chaitanya Pradhan had filed a complaint with Titilagarh police station in this regard.
