Bhubaneswar: To prevent the outbreak of Diphtheria in Malkangiri and Koraput districts, the state government has taken various urgent measures to ensure patients receive high-quality treatment. The government has also expedited urgent vaccination measures for children to prevent the disease’s spread.
Diphtheria primarily affects children, and since it’s a vaccine-preventable disease, a team of immunization experts from the Directorate of Family Welfare and paediatric doctors from Shahid Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital has been instructed to examine children’s health and arrange vaccinations where necessary, said a Health department release.

A rapid response team from the State Directorate of Public Health, led by the Joint Director of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program, has been dispatched to Malkangiri district to study patient treatment and take necessary measures.
Upon the disease gaining public attention, a rapid response team comprising doctors and health workers from districts and blocks began treating patients. The government has made arrangements for optimal patient treatment and taken necessary steps to eradicate the disease.
