Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has given its nod to eight major industrial projects worth over Rs 1.51 lakh crore, which are expected to create more than 62,000 job opportunities in the state. These projects were approved during a High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The projects span across various sectors, including aluminium, chemicals, steel, textiles, and ancillary and downstream metal, and are located in six districts – Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Sambalpur. Notably, Vedanta Limited’s proposal to set up a 3 MTPA aluminium smelter and 4900 MW Captive Power Plant in Dhenkanal, with an investment of Rs 1,28,000 crore, is expected to create 30,000 jobs.
Other significant projects include SRF Limited’s speciality chemicals and refrigerant manufacturing unit in Ganjam, with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore and generating 20,000 employment opportunities. Jindal India Steel Tech Limited will set up a speciality steel processing facility in Dhenkanal, while Shyam Steel Manufacturing Limited proposed an integrated steel plant in Keonjhar.
Additionally, Linde India Limited will invest Rs 1,303.50 crore to establish an Air Separation Unit in Jajpur, and Star Metal Works Private Limited will set up a narrow hot strip mill, cold rolling, and plate cum Steckle mill in Sambalpur. Supreme Metals Export Private Limited plans a rolling mill for TMT bars and wire rods in Keonjhar, and Sportking India Limited will establish a cotton and blended yarn manufacturing unit in Khurda.
Chief Minister Majhi stated that since June 12 last year, his government has held six HLCA meetings, approving 62 projects with an investment opportunity of Rs 5.67 lakh crore and potential to create about 2.42 lakh jobs. This progress is a step towards achieving the national goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and the state’s vision of Samruddha Odisha by 2036
