Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled a life-sized statue of the great freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai in front of the VSS Airport at Jharsuguda on the occasion of the martyr’s 213th birth anniversary today.
Union Coal & Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi also joined the statue unboxing ceremony in virtual mode.
The freedom fighter’s statue has been built at a cost of Rs 60 lakh with assistance from Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) Pradhan informed while speaking on the occasion.
Pradhan said Veer Surendra Sai is foremost among the freedom fighters who spent the maximum number of years in prison.
The Union Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister stated that while there every scope for developing the freedom fighter’s birthplace into a tourist destination of the highest order, there is a need for collective efforts to make it happen.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dedicated the airport at Jharsuguda to the nation in September 2018. Later the airport was named after Veer Surendra Sai.
After the unboxing ceremony, Pradhan visited Veer Surendra Sai’s ancestral home at Khinda in Sambalpur district and met his successors.
