Bhubaneswar: Eminent journalist and retired HoD of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Berhampur University, Dr Pradeep Mahapatra passed away on Thursday night.
He was 69 and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the state capital due to complications from pneumonia.
According to sources, Mahapatra fell sick a few days back and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. He was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated. He was put on a ventilator due to severe respiratory distress. He will be cremated in Berhampur, sources said.
His death has created a void in the field of journalism.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the demise of Mahapatra.
Taking to Twitter, CM wrote: “The news of the demise of Professor Dr Pradeep Mahapatra, a retired professor from the Journalism Department of Berhampur University, has left me deeply saddened. After his retirement, Dr Mahapatra remained active in the field of journalism, writing numerous articles and books. His passing has caused an irreparable loss to the field of journalism. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.“
