Bhubaneswar: Acclaimed Odia actor Biraj Dash passed away at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He was 63. Dash was undergoing treatment for cancer at a private hospital here, his younger son Arnab Dash informed.
A versatile and crtically acclaimed actor Dash, had played various roles in Odia tele-serials and films during a career spanning more than three decades. He was known for roles in tele-serials Atatai, Nagafasa, and other crime series.
A classical theatre artist, Dash was praised for his acting in the films: Mo Bhai Jaga (1995), Prem Bandhan (1999) and Jaa Devi Sarva Bhuteshu (1989). He was very devoted to Shirdi Sai Baba and portrayed the role of Sai Baba for which spectators revered him as the seer.
“Known in the circle as a very gentle and polite person, Dash was a natural artist. His demise is a great loss to the Odia cine industry,” said Durgadutta Kanungo, retired Doordarshan official and a close associate of Dash.
