Bhubaneswar: Veteran popular Ollywood actor Mihir Das passed away today.
Das passed away while undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Cuttack. He was 63.
The passing away of the veteran actor has left a void in the Odia cinema industry.
A few days back Das was admitted to a private hospital at Cuttack after he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
He was diabetic and was suffering from multi-organ failure. He was on ventilator support. Both of his kidneys had stopped functioning and he was on dialysis.
Despite all efforts by the attending doctors, he breathed his last at 3.25 PM today. His son Amlan was by his side at the time of his death.
The eminent actor who had earned the moniker ‘Kaka of Ollywood’ was born on the 11th of February in 1959 at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district.
From his early childhood, Das had a weakness for arts. He had made his debut in the art movie ‘School Master’. Later he acted in commercial films and created a name for himself.
His first commercial movie ‘Mathura Vijay’ was released in 1979. It was this film which made him a star overnight. During his career spanning three decades, Mihir Das has given many hits.
He received ‘Best Actor Award’ at the State Film Awards for his role in ‘Laxmi Pratima’ and ‘Pheri Aa Mo Suna Bhauni’.
Similarly, he had won the ‘Best Side Actor Award’ for his role in ‘Rakhi Bandhili Mo Rakhiba Mana’ and ‘Prema Adhei Akshara’.
