Puri: Indian Navy war veteran Vice Admiral S H Sarma was cremated with full Naval honours at Swargadwara here on Tuesday. The 1971 Indo-Pak war veteran died in Bhubaneswar on Monday at the age of 100.
Sarma was the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet during the 1971 war. Sarma also served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC in C) of the Eastern Naval Command. He breathed his last at 6.20 pm at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The funeral was held at Swargadwara on the shores of Bay of Bengal with full Naval honours, in the presence of family, friends and well-wishers.
The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for the final rites of the highly decorated Naval officer. Folllowing the gun salute by Navy, district police gave a guard of honour to the late Vice Admiral.
Senior officials of Indian Navy, district administration, police and large number of people attended the funeral ceremony.
