Bhubaneswar: In a significant development in the disproportionate assets case against Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, Chief Engineer of the Rural Works Department in Odisha, the Vigilance department has recovered approximately Rs 2.1 crore in cash from his properties.

According to a release issued by the Odisha Vigilance, the recovery includes Rs 1 crore from Sarangi’s Bhubaneswar flat at PDN Exotica and approximately Rs 1.1 crore from his residence in Angul, bringing the total amount unearthed to Rs 2.1 crore.

When the Vigilance officers arrived at Sarangi’s Bhubaneswar flat, he allegedly attempted to dispose of evidence by throwing bundles of Rs 500 notes out of the window of his Bhubaneswar flat. However, the cash was recovered by the search team in the presence of witnesses.

The searches are still ongoing, and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of Sarangi’s disproportionate assets.

The Vigilance department is working to unravel the details of this case, and more updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
