Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Friday apprehended Smruti Ranjan Nayak, Junior Engineer (JE), Naugaon Block in Jagatsinghpur district along with a private person Babina Das for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a contractor (complainant) for handing over of cheque for clearing his final pending bill.
According to an official press release, as per Nayak’s direction, a private person Das was accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant in the former’s presence. Both were nabbed by Vigilance officials. The entire bribe money has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Nayak from disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
Vigilance has registered a case under sections 7 and 12 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this connection. Further investigation against the accused persons namely Nayak and Das is underway.
