**Bhubaneswar:** The former Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Jatni Police Station Sanjeeb Mohanty, who had been arrested by the Vigilance on September 3, deposed before the Bhubaneswar Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court today.
Mohanty recorded his statement before the magistrate under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), said sources.
He has been lodged in the Jharpada jail since September 4 after his bail application was rejected by the Vigilance Court in Bhubaneswar. DGP RP Sharma had also suspended Mohanty on September 6.
Vigilance officials had caught Mohanty red handed while he was accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 from a businessman of Kudiary in Khurda district identified as Sumit Kumar Mangaraj.
Mohanty had allegedly demanded the said amount from Sumit for not executing warrant of arrest issued against him under section 110 of CrPC and not to implicate him in other criminal cases under major sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
