Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance today arrested Assistant Engineer, GPH Division-I, Bhubaneswar, Manas Ranjan Samal for possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 167 per cent of his known sources of income.
Samal was arrested and forwarded to court for possession of disproportionate assets which he could not account for satisfactorily, said an official press release of the Vigilance.
The anti-graft agency has registered against Samal and his spouse under section 13 (2) read with 13 (1)(b)/12 of the PC (Amendment) Act of 2018.
Based on the allegation of possession of disproportionate assets against Samal, seven teams of the Vigilance conducted simultaneous house searches on Monday at seven places in Cuttack, Khurdha and Jagatsinghpur districts.
The seven teams were led by 3 DSPs, 11 Inspectors, 2 Sub-Inspectors, 5 ASIs and other staff on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets which include one triple-storeyed building over plot No. E/121, Sector-7, CDA, Cuttack; one flat vide No. 206-B, Floor-B Block, Srusti Plaza, Kantilo, Jatani worth Rs 22.76 lakh; single-storeyed building over parental land located at Champatipatna, Salipur; 2 numbers of plots in Phulanakhara, Cuttack and Naranagada, Khurdha respectively; Bank & Insurance deposits worth over Rs 1.46 Crore; Cash Rs 54,047; 1 four-wheeler (Hyundai Verna) worth Rs 12.64 lakh; 4 two-wheelers worth over Rs.2.61 lakh; Gold worth over Rs 3.04 lakh; and household articles worth over Rs 5.34 lakh were unearthed in the name of Samal and his family members.
After a thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, income, expenditure and assets of Samal were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which is 167% higher than his known sources of income, the official release said.
