Vigilance Arrests Bhubaneswar R&B Division Asst Engineer In DA Case

Bhubaneswar: Assistant Engineer of Bhubaneswar R&B Division-5, Sarada Prasad Gauda, was arrested by Bhubaneswar Vigilance on Thursday on charges of possessing disproportionate assets which he could not account for satisfactorily.

Reportedly on Wednesday, officers of Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division on the strength of search warrants issued by Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, had conducted simultaneous raids on Gauda’s (1) triple-storied building at Bhubaneswar, (2) house at native village Badagada, Ganjam, (3) house of relatives at village Sorada, Ganjam and Gandhi Nagar, Berhampur, and (4) office room at Bhubaneswar.

In course of search and inventory, he was found in possession of assets worth Rs 1,55,48,517 (Rupees One Crore Fifty-five Lakhs Forty-eight Thousand Five Hundred Seventeen) including one triple-storied building, one flat, 19 numbers of plots, one four wheeler, two numbers of two wheelers, deposits in different banks, investment in insurance policies, gold and silver ornaments, cash and household articles.

After search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Sri Gauda was calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 1,33,13,443 (Rupees One Crore Thirty-three Lakhs Thirteen Thousand Four Hundred Forty-three).

As Gauda was found in possession of such huge disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, a case was registered against him and his wife at Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, for detailed investigation.

In course of investigation, Gauda was arrested today and will be forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar tomorrow. Investigation of the case is in progress.
