Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested the Project Director of Watershed Mission, Nabarangpur, Laxmidhar Jena on charges of corruption.
Following his arrest, Jena was forwarded to court and has been remanded to jail custody till May 21.
Accused Jena was intercepted by a team of Vigilance officials on May 9 while he was plying from his office by official vehicle to his rented residence.
During the interception, suspected ill-gotten cash of Rs 2,20,000 was recovered and seized from Jena’s possession which he could not account for satisfactorily.
Further during the house search by the anti-corruption agency, cash amounting to Rs 4.50 lakh was seized from Jena’s house at Tamando here and his rented residence at Nabarangpur. Overall cash recovered and seized in the case amounts to Rs 6.7 lakh.
In this connection, a case has been registered against Jena under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act of 2018 at Koraput Vigilance police station.
