Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Sundargarh on Monday sentenced a retired Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Duryodhan Ghasi and a former Sarpanch of Kendudihi gram panchayat Shankar Kishan to 4 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) each and fine of Rs 1,50,000 each for misappropriating government money to the tune of Rs 1,94,200.
The court ruled that in default of payment of fine Ghasi and Kishan have to further undergo RI of one year each.
The court further sentenced them to undergo RI for 1 year each and payment of a fine of Rs 50,000 each and in default of payment of fine they have to undergo further RI for 3 months each for the offence under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) of the PC Act, 1988.
The court ordered that both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Further, convicts Ghasi and Kishan were sent jail to serve their sentences.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of retired Panchayat Executive Officer Duryodhan Ghasi following his conviction.
