Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths today arrested an accountant of the office of Block Education Officer (BEO) at Brahmagiri in Puri district for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a retired teacher.
Accountant Bikash Kumar Senapati received the undue advantage for the issue of NOC to release his gratuity.
The teacher had retired from service in May-2022. Since his retirement, he had been requesting Senapati to issue NOC in his favour to get his gratuity. However, Senapati was demanding a bribe Rs 5,000 to issue NOC in favour of the retired teacher.
Based on his complaint, a trap was laid, wherein accused Bikash Kumar Senapati was caught by a team of Odisha Vigilance in his residential house while accepting the amount from the complainant. The entire bribe money was recovered from his possession and seized.
Both hands wash of Senapati gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Senapati at Madhuban under Talabania police station in Puri and his office room.
The accused accountant was arrested and forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, a case has been registered under section- 7 of Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018.
