Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday nabbed Subhakanta Swain, Section Officer, Office of the Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation, Bhubaneswar, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant for processing the application of his brother and issuance of a contractor license.
After apprehending Swain by laying a trap, Vigilance personnel launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Swain from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle. Further, Rs 14,990 has been recovered from the office drawer of Swain and Rs 5,500 from his possession so far.
A case has been registered in this connection at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Investigation is in progress against the accused and a detailed report is awaited.
