Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths apprehended Hemanta Kumar Terai, a Senior Revenue Assistant (SRA) at the Vyasanagar Tahasil office in Jajpur district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500.

The accused was caught red-handed while taking the second and final instalment of the bribe amounting to Rs 5,000 from a complainant in exchange for fixing a date for land demarcation.

According to the Vigilance sleuths, Terai had previously received Rs 500 from the complainant and was pressuring him to pay the remaining amount.

Unable to fulfil the demand, the complainant approached the Vigilance authorities, following which a trap was laid and Terai was caught while receiving the bribe money.

The entire bribe amount of Rs 4,500 has been recovered from Terai’s possession and seized. Simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to him to investigate potential disproportionate assets.

A case, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 20, dated 31.07.2025, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the investigation is currently underway.
