Vigilance Raids Crorepati PEO, Arrests Police SI In Separate Cases

Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance on Monday carried out raids on the premises of a Panchayat Executive Officer, Achyutananda Khuntia over allegations of possession of disproportionate assets.

Khuntia is posted as the PEO of Jhankarpali Gram Panchayat in Jujumura Block of Sambalpur district. The sleuths conducted searches at his house in Kuchinda, native village Subarnapali, stalls at Subarnapali and office room at Jhankarpali.

The Vigilance unearthed two houses, two plots, three stalls, insurance deposits worth Rs 10.43 lakh, bank deposit of Rs 1.15 lakh and other immovable and movable property owned by Khuntia and his family members.

“As per initial estimate, the property of the PEO is worth Rs 1.12 crore. We are investigating further into the case,” a Vigilance official said.

On the other hand, a Sub Inspector posted at Binjharpur police station in Jajpur district was held by the Vigilance while accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000. “The SI Fakir Mohan Singh had demanded and received the money from the complainant to grant him favours in a case,” the Vigilance said.

The Vigilance have registered a case and carried out searches on the premises of Singh at Kandarpur in Cuttack and house at Bijharpur.
