Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday nabbed Birbal Satnami, a Programme Assistant engaged with the Block Social Security Office at Umerkote in Odisha’s Koraput district, for allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 bribe to process an application for payment under National Family Benefit Scheme.
According to reports Satnami took a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man for helping him to receive the payment for death benefit under the Jatiya Paribar Mangal Yojana. Vigilance sleuths laid a trap to nab him and recovered the entire bribe money from him.
The complainant, a BPL card holder whose father was the sole earning member of the family, had expired on November 11, 2019. After knowing about the scheme, he applied for a monetary benefit of Rs 20,000 under the scheme in November 2022.
Since then, the complainant was approaching Satnami to get his work done but in vain. Finding no other way, he informed the Vigilance officials and accordingly, Satnami was nabbed while accepting the bribe.
Following the trap, simultaneous house searches are going on at two locations of related to Satnami from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
A case has been registered in this connection and further investigation is in progress.
