Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officers have apprehended an amin posted in Kendrapara for taking a bribe of Rs 2000 on Wednesday.
Identified as Umakanta Behera, the accused was working as an Amin in the office of Tahasildar, Mahakalapada Tahasil, Kendrapara district.
For last one month, the complainant has been requesting Behera to release the demarcation report of his land. However, Umakanta had intentionally held his file, demanding a bribe of Rs 2000 for the release.
Being financially weak the complainant was not able to pay the sum demanded by Behera and approached Vigilance Authority for help.
He shared his matter with the officials through the toll-free number 1064 of Odisha Vigilance.
Taking swift action Vigilance sleuths set up a trap and arrested Amin Umakanta Behera while accepting the bribe money which he demanded from the complainant.
Following the trap, instantaneous searches are going on at three locations of Behera from a DA angle.
The Cuttack Vigilance PS has registered case no 12/2024 U/s-7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this connection.
The investigation is in progress against accused Umakanta Behera.
