Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested Rabindra Padhy, senior clerk in the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO) at Harbhanga in Odisha’s Boudh district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 as the first instalment of an overall demand of Rs 40,000 from a complainant (a school teacher) to help her in an administrative matter. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the accused Padhy and seized.
According to an official release from Odisha Vigilance, for the last six months, the complainant had been requesting Padhy to process her file but he was demanding a bribe of Rs 40,000 from her to get the work done. Finding no other way, the complainant informed the Vigilance about her harassment. Accordingly, Vigilance officials chalked out a plan and today nabbed Padhy red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000 from her.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations of Padhy.
The Vigilance Berhampur police station has registered a case (No 8/2024) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, in this connection. Investigation is in progress against accused Padhy and a detailed report is awaited.
