Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials today caught red-handed Inspector In Charge (IIC) of Chandipur police station Ganeswar Pradhan who is also in charge IIC of Marine police station along with ASI of Chandipur police station Bali Mohanty while they were taking bribe from a licensed India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) off Shop.
Pradhan and Mohanty were trapped by Vigilance officials while they were demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 as the monthly extortion amount (monthly bati) from the IMFL off-shop owner by threatening not to allow him to run his business otherwise.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from Mohanty and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations of Pradhan and Mohanty respectively from disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered at Balasore Vigilance police station under section 7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018 .
Further investigation is in progress against both the accused persons Pradhan and Mohanty, said an official press release.
