Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance has apprehended Sub-Inspector of police of the Subarnapur Out Post under Banki Police Station in Cuttack district. Prasanna Kumar Mohali was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a bricks factory owner.
The factory owner had approached Mohali for documents related to a case registered earlier, which were necessary for claiming insurance after the factory was set ablaze by unknown miscreants. However, Mohali allegedly refused to provide the documents unless the bribe was paid.
A team of vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Mohali while he was accepting the bribe. The entire amount of Rs. 20,000 was recovered from him and seized. Searches are currently underway at three locations linked to Mohali to investigate potential disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered against Mohali under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and an investigation is underway.
